Tips and advice
As a hairdresser, you know how much good recommendations and word of mouth mean for the business. But not all customers think about how they can best support you – especially if they believe they need to spend a lot of money to make a difference. They actually don’t need to at all! Here is a guide you can share with your customers (on social media, in newsletters, or in the salon) so they know exactly how they can help you – completely free.

You probably know yourself that likes, comments, reviews, and shares can be just as valuable as paid ads. (If not more valuable) In a time when social media is filled with advertisements, word-of-mouth marketing is still the strongest motivator for new customers. That’s why your customers can help you significantly – without it costing them a penny. Help your customers understand that they are your very best ambassadors. When they share your posts or write a review, they create credible promotion within their own network.
Many of your customers actually want to help but don’t always know how. That’s why it’s important that you are clear and show them the different ways they can support you:
Once customers see how easy it is and how much of a difference it makes for the salon, they often enjoy helping – and many actually find it fun to show off their new hair.
Customers come to you because you give them a great experience and a beautiful result. Remind them that their personal voice is more important than a standard ad. By giving a review in their own words and pictures, they tell their friends and family: “I got my hair cut at a place I trust and am proud of.” A single picture of their new hair with a short text about why they are happy – that can convert more new customers than an expensive ad because it appears genuine and trustworthy.
The more you help customers along, the more likely they are to actually do it. For example, you can: Share pre-designed posts and images that encourage liking, sharing, and commenting. Hang a small poster or card in the salon with a QR code or a phrase like “Tag us on social media,” or “Remember a review if you’re happy!” Guide customers during the treatment: “If you want to support the salon, a like or a review helps a lot. It’s completely free for you and a big help for us.”
Even though it’s all free, you can consider a small “thank you” for customers who support you at the start. It can be intimidating to be the first to write a review. For example:
Remember: It doesn’t have to be a big prize. Many customers are happy to write a review or share a post completely free – but they will always feel extra appreciated if you clearly acknowledge their effort. You can always consider negotiating with your supplier. If you ask for 100 travel-size shampoos to hand out to new potential customers, even the slowest supplier/salesperson would say yes, as it’s a small expense for a large potential sales growth.
Below you’ll find the graphics you can post on your Facebook, Instagram, or website. They give customers concrete tips on what they can do to support you – without having to pay a penny.

You can optionally combine these graphics into a carousel post on Instagram or share them gradually on Facebook with a short text where you thank for all the amazing support you already get from your customers.
Getting more and more loyal customers doesn’t have to be about big advertising budgets. With a few clear calls to action and easy-to-understand messages, you can activate your customers’ desire to help – completely free. Most customers are happy to support their favorite hairdresser once they discover how easy it is and how much it means.
Definitely use the images below and feel the difference when your customers suddenly become your best ambassadors. It can give a solid boost to your business – and all it takes is a click, a comment, or a review from someone who already loves your salon.
The images are made by us, so you can use them as wildly as you want. The only thing you may not do is sell them.
